ABOUT ME
Hello! My name is Zahira Lopez. I graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in December 2022 with a Bachelor of Science degree in advertising and public relations and a minor in health sciences. At UNK, I held numerous leadership positions through my memberships of my sorority Gamma Phi Beta, AdPR Club, Hispanic Student Association and The Antelope, the campus student newspaper.
As a staff member of The Antelope, the campus student newspaper, I worked as a designer, photographer, and the news anchor for a segment called Lopers Speak. For my last semester, I had the honor of being managing editor where I generated ideas for content and organized and assigned design tasks for staff members. In my classes, I was able to learn copywriting skills and programs in the Adobe suite.
Throughout my four years in Gamma Phi Beta, I had the opportunity to be the Loyalty Circle Chairwoman, Carnation Crew Leader and a Standards Committee member. I also represented them in the Panhellenic community by serving as a sorority recruitment counselor for two years. Through my membership, I had the opportunity to make connections throughout the entire Greek community as well as give back by raising money for Girls on the Run, a national nonprofit that builds up third-eighth grade girls, and the Kearney S.A.F.E. Center.
I love all things music: singing, dancing, and attending concerts. I enjoy thrifting, journaling, and traveling. The last two years have opened the door for me to explore how powerful the kitchen can be, physically and mentally. I live my life with one core principle in mind: treat others with respect. No matter what walks of life we come from, we all share the human desire to belong. Treating others with respect includes being honest and being welcoming as everyone deserves to feel heard.
